UK minister urges betting firms to help problem gamblers during COVID-19

For some time now, the UK Government and the UK gambling industry have rarely seen eye to eye. Often, there are arguments over money, pricing mechanisms, taxation, and even fairness in the gaming scene. Now, though, a local MP, UK Sports Minister Nigel Huddlestone, has called out the entire gambling industry. He’s made some pretty significant claims, suggesting that the companies involved in the UK do much more than the previous 10-point pledge that was signed up to.

The pledge itself is a serious thing to consider, as it was a major part of the industries bid to try and win back some positive PR. Having been battered from pillar to post by the UK Government through their communications, as well as the UK Gambling Commission, the message was clear: shape up or clear out.

Despite being worth huge sums of money to the UK public purse, there has long been a dissatisfaction with the UK casino industry. That’s why many people are now demanding wholesale industry-wide changes, including dropping things like no deposit free spins bonuses. Huddlestone, though, has called for the companies to simply go above and beyond what was already agreed as to their primary source of action in a bid to stop the problem from worsening.

It’s a clear sign, then, that there is a desire for the UK Government to make some crucial changes. If Huddlestone is listened to, UK gambling could look very different come to the end of 2020.
