First Australian online gambling proposal underway

For Australians, the idea of sitting enjoying a nice game of pokies is something many look forward to. You work hard all week, so the last thing you want to do is have your entertainment slowed down or stopped. With so many new casinos in Australia to play, too, gamers have the chance to really explore their options. Add in the rich range of online gambling free spins and free bets that you can get, too, and it’s a very lucrative market. That lucrative nature, though, seems to have caught the eye of the government.

The rights to the Australian online gambling sector, its has been reported, could be given to First Australians and soldiers. With billions of Australian dollars leaving the country to go to off-shore unlicensed casinos, it’s hurting the economy. The aim then is to try and bring it back into the “real community”, according to MP Bob Katter.

It’s an interesting discussion, and one that shows a different approach to trying to regulate the market. Most other countries, especially those in Europe, have went down the route of making their games require licensing. This has worked to some extent, but this Australian option might offer something a bit different to the norm.

While it’s not yet been set in stone, this is a proposal that is set for discussion amongst Australian lawmakers. How far it will get, we don’t know, but it’s certainly an interesting discussion point for the country.
