Norway TV ads ban slammed by online gambling firms

Having become one of the most prominent nations in Europe when it comes to online casino regulation, there’s much discussion about how the Norwegian government handles disputes. One such argument that is going on at the moment is the Norwegian government deciding to go ahead with a TV ban of advertising for companies that aren’t licensed in Norway.

This is likely to come to a head soon, though, with major international gambling firms calling the company out. They instead have asked for a more ‘liberal’ regulatory program, allowing for easier access for companies that have something to offer. Given the intensity of regulation in Norway, though, such a scaling back of their opportunities seems a long way away.

This has been a major discussion point among Norwegian casino gamers. Is it fair to ask companies to not be able to advertise on the TV in Norway?

Many opinions exist on the topic, and it’s likely that this is going to go on for some time in the future. Expect more discussion to keep coming over this, as lobbyists will try and push hard to get the proposed TV ban suspended or put aside entirely.

With the loophole that still exists allowing for Norwegian TV to show non-licensed companies, it’s expected to be closed in the near future. This was first discussed in 2017, and it’s likely to be a talking point for Norwegian gamers for a long time to come here.
