Are tougher UK gambling laws pushing punters to illegal sites?
For years, there has been talking about how effective the stricter UK casino gaming laws have been. The push to try and make online casino gaming harder to take part in has meant that, for many gamers, alternatives must be sought. Seeking the best deal and the easiest way to potentially win big, reports show that many gamers in the UK simply work around regulations as opposed to follow them.
Given the longevity of gambling as part of UK culture, and the illegality of the process in the past, Britons are used to finding ways around regulation. However, the UK Gambling Commission has become increasingly strict in recent years, putting even more pressure on gambling companies and platforms. This, though, could be seeing some players take a risk and use sites which would normally be deemed illegal.
The laws actually tend to be counterproductive if the aim is to protect customers and stop them from being exploited. Given the crackdown and limitation of features and opportunity for gamers in the UK, many turn to sites which are either unregulated or illegal in a bid to get their gambling fix in a way that feels fair to them.
The downside is that made of these sites are illegal for a reason, and either uses unscrupulous tactics or put people in a tough position. It’s for this reason that tougher UK gambling laws could actually be causing otherwise safe players to take risky routes in a bid to workaround legislation that they see as disruptive to their entertainment.
As ever in such a situation, the only people who win here are the very people whom the regulation was supposed to inhibit.
